THE FOUR FEATHERS STORY
Four Feathers tells the story of a young cavalry officer named Harry Faversham, who whilst
completing his training as an officer in cadet school in England, celebrates his engagement to a young lady named Ethne.
When the British Army announces that Harry’s regiment is being dispatched to North Africa
(Sudan) to rescue British General Charles Gordon and his army who are surrounded by the
enemy, young Harry has serious ethical reservations about the war, and resigns his commission and disgraces his family name.
Harry's father disowns him. His fiancée ends their engagement because she only wants to marry an officer in the military. And his friends perceive his resignation as an officer as pure cowardice.
Three of his fellow officers and best friends including his former fiancée each send him a white
feather, the symbol of cowardice and disloyalty.
Inspired by the film, Four Feathers Ultra Marathon takes its name from the 2002 re-release of the film which was directed by legendary Indian film director Shekhar Kapur and features Heath Ledger, Kate Hudson and West Bentley as it tells the tale of how disloyalty can destroy long lasting friendships and relationships through acts of betrayal.
